What Are the Benefits of Group Therapy?

Group therapy has been shown to produce similar results for a number of mental health problems (e.g., social anxiety) as individual therapy. However, individual and group therapy do differ in several ways.

  1. Group therapy usually consists of weekly sessions that last between 1 – 2 hours
  2. Group session times are pre-determined and if you miss a session that session usually cannot be offered again.
  3. Clients who opt for group therapy often report that meeting and hearing from other individuals who struggle with similar difficulties makes them feel less alone and more optimistic that their situation can improve.
  4. The nature of a group can help promote social and communication skills by learning how to navigate situations and relationships with others.
  5. Group therapy is also less expensive than individual therapy.

We have structured our services so that it is also possible to be involved in both group and individual therapy.
